Work Experience: I am just starting out in the tutoring field. I have received high quality training using the Orton-Gillingham Basic and Advanced Teaching Methods from The Reading Center/Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota. This training teaches tutors how to use the Orton-Gillingham Teaching Methods to work with students and adults with dyslexia at various levels.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: I want to make sure that tutoring is enjoyable for the student so they like to learn even if it's difficult for them. I think it's important to teach to a student's strengths and build on those strengths. Because of my previous training I find it's important to start with the basic elements and scaffold up from the basics to more advanced. This scaffolding should help the student learn the "hows" and "whys" so they are ready to learn the more advanced material when the time comes. Practice and repetition are key as well.
