GENERAL EXPERIENCE: I began taking advanced Spanish classes the summer before my freshman year of high school, Trinity Girls Preparatory in River Forest, Illinois. I was accepted into Pre-IB based on my skill level and grade in that Spanish summer class. I, with the other Spanish Pre-IB students followed the International Baccalaureate program for freshman and sophomores. At the end of sophomore year, based on our grades and overall capabilities for the first half of high school, I was recommended to move on in the program and continue as an IB student in Spanish (as I did with History, Art, English, and Biology). In college, although I decided not to major or minor in Spanish, I received A's in both the classes I took. I understand verb conjugations, tenses, specific Hispanic cultural traditions, key persons in Spanish art, and have an average sized vocabulary; I also have numerous tip sheets and helpful papers on the subject that I have kept since high school and college classes.
I do not have clocked experience in a traditional tutoring way. I do believe that it is the understanding I have of Spanish that makes me able to tutor others.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: My tutoring style would be very interactive with the student. I remember what did and did not help me to learn Spanish, since I have had many instructors over the years (since grade school). I would start out with common verbs and vocabulary with the student and always be sure grammar and pronunciation are on track. I believe the main goal is to have the student become familiar with conjugation of the AR-ER-IR verbs and be able to conjugate them in sentences easily and confidently. After this, learning words is supplementary... it is vital that the student understand how to form sentences and verbs- not just memorize words in Spanish.
I would like to use a traditional way of teaching- the student following my lead as I write and explain the lesson, however, the student will always be interactive- trying to use their own minds to figure out the problems.
