GENERAL EXPERIENCE: I have always enjoyed assisting others with their academic pursuits whether it was simply proofing a friends paper or in a formal tutoring setting with actionable steps for success. I enjoy writing and sought out intensive writing courses and work experiences to help build on this skill. I also have strong skills in the social sciences and Spanish. My tutoring experiences and teaching have been extensive and I am still surprised by how much I learn from my students. In my line of work now I see just how difficult life can be without a high school diploma or a GED, there are very few doors left open to this set of individuals. With this tutoring opportunity I hope to be a fresh perspective on the importance of education and the opportunities it creates. My tutoring experiences have included working in special education classrooms, an after school program for ELL students abroad, a classroom assistant in a first grade classroom and a tutor of sorts in my current work at Project for Pride in Living's Learning Center.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: I believe that every child does not learn the same and therefore different methodologies need to be put in place to foster greater understanding, and hopefully a greater love of learning. Myself, I am a hands on learner, trying things myself over listening and watching an activity. I have taught a wide variety of students and understand how great an impact you can have if you take the time to understand how they think and best can learn. I am a creative, passionate person that believes that everyone can learn, it just might not happen in a standardized way. I have strong ideals and am an active member in my community; for a stronger community to take shape it depends on the health of the next generation. I hope my passion and drive can assist others in thriving in their academic setting.
