GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Because I believe every student can succeed, I find it important to reach out to those students who I see struggling. I want to help them in any way possible. It is very important not to leave any child behind, but at times, the regular school day, does not have enough hours to attain that goal. Therefore, participating on an after school intervention program is an integral part of a school. I lead an extra 2 hour reading program with a smaller group of students so I could focus on them more on a one-to-one basis. I was expected to keep a running record of their progress. Fluency and comprehension were two elements of this program.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: Every student has a different learning style. It is important for me to find that style whether it be tactile, auditory, or kinesthetic and gear my teaching style to give the student the most beneficial teaching style for him. Building a rapport with every child is also very important. Knowing a child, where they come from, finding common interests, is the beginning of building the trust and respect needed for each child to succeed in the tutoring environment.
