GENERAL EXPERIENCE: I graduated from college with a B.S. degree and licenses in Elementary Education K-5, middle school- social studies 6-8. I traveled to four different districts in a 60 mile radius to substitute teach for almost two years right after I graduated. When I moved to the twin cities, I worked as a lead teacher/kindergarten teacher for a Montessori school and helped open a new school for them. While I was teaching in the
Montessori schools I was going back to college for my special education degree and license in learning disabilities two nights a week, 60 miles away. The other evenings/nights I worked as a PCA for a boy who has high special needs in his home. When I moved forward with my career into special education, I worked as a Educational Assistant (EA) for a 5th grade boy who has autism. We worked very well together and I was the only EA who stayed with him the longest. My student teaching and degree in special education was completed and while I was an EA, I impressed the principal and other staff so much that I got hired for the up-in-coming school year. I needed full-time work, so the principal and district found me another half-time position. I would work half time at the high school and half time at the elementary school. It sounded good and easy enough, but it was basically two full time jobs with no lunch break. I taught math- test preparation for the graduation standards and basic math to algebra 1 & 2 catering to all fifteen students in my class (and no EA to help). The students had various special education needs and yet I loved every class time I had with those kids. After being cut due to a levy not passing the district cut me which brought me to a charter school. During that time, my father was diagnosed with cancer, and my teaching experience with kindergartners with/without special needs was short as I resigned to spend time with my father and family. Before my father passed, I was hired for a substitute teacher for DCD setting 3 students. I was not sure about working again nor the status of when my father would pass, but financially and spiritually, I needed to work. Two weeks after I started in the DCD classroom, my dad lost his battle to cancer. Yet, through all that I loved my new job and all the people in it. They also loved me and interviewed and hired me for a new position in the fall as an autism teacher, setting 3 (self-contained with my own classroom). I worked in the summer as an EBD/LD teacher to DCD/EBD students ages 18-21 for a different district. During my experience as an autism teacher I was going back to school to finish my master's degree and complete my EBD license. Additionally, I was a swimming assistant coach for girls and the following year the head girls swimming coach. Oh, and the first year I taught students with autism and assisted coaching, I was pregnant and due in March 2007. I think I can say I like to be busy! Well, with budget cuts and a levy not passing in this district, my low position on the pole, terminated my employment and brought me to working in the most recent district I worked. My time with this district, being a full time single mother, and taking a 3 hour class one night a week 60 miles away, burnt my final string to teaching or maybe to just being too busy. I worked with a tough group of students in vary contained atmosphere with a smart group of staff, but I chose not to continue on with that district or position. So, here I am now.... long winded and writing the shortest version I can with enough detail. I have always loved teaching, since I was 5 years old, and my newest and first student my younger brother was born. I don't know why the chips have fallen where they are with my experiences, but I am grateful for all of them as I feel it has made me a very well-rounded educator.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: I like to get to know the student as much as I can within professional boundaries. I think getting to know you hear them and have listened to them is a key component to having their attention and trust to show them the power of knowledge. I am not perfect nor a genius, at least I don't think I am... but I like to strive for the best and also show the student I can screw up too or learn something new from them also. Lastly, I love to incorporate humor, fun, and as much real life connections into the material.
