GENERAL EXPERIENCE: While at Grinnell College, I was selected by faculty to plan and conduct weekly French Language Teaching sessions for introductory college students. I assisted students with grammar, speaking and writing skills while conversing with them entirely in French. Also, as a General Science-Biology major, I have extensive coursework in the natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), as well as in Mathematics (Calculus II) and a variety of humanities areas (French, Anthropology, etc). My coursework emphasized collaborative and experiential learning, so I frequently worked with fellow classmates on independent group projects, as well as assisting introductory level students with their science assignments.
This past year, I have been volunteering as an English as a Second Language tutor for adult refugees and immigrants at a community center in Minneapolis. I also have worked as an Employment Counselor for adults with disabilities and/or mental illnesses, so I have extensive experience working directly with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: One of the most important aspects of tutoring for me has been the ability to listen to students and pick up on their needs and wants as a learner so as to cater the lessons to the individual's unique learning style. While some individuals are visual learners, many rely on listening and verbal abilities. I try to adjust all lessons to accommodate students in order to maximize their learning. I also like to incorporate information and resources from a diverse group of sources to make learning more relevant and applicable to their lives.
