GENERAL EXPERIENCE: During my collegiate studies, I only took one education course. Therefore, I am not certified as a teacher--not even close. However, I believe that the vast majority of being a good teacher is natural. In other words, one possesses the gift of teaching, or one doesn't. Yes, one's ability can be enhanced through education courses, but I believe a teacher polishes their skills through actual experience--not in planning lessons in a college classroom.
I have teaching and tutoring experience. I have found it to be my passion. Although my experience is not extensive (I have only been tutoring for three years and I have only taught for one), I do not see that as a great negative. Instead, I thank God that I have been blessed with the gift of teaching/tutoring.
As the principal of my school told me last year, "Matt, you are a natural teacher." I think that means more than any certificate I might have.
Teaching is my passion, my future, and and is what gives me great satisfaction.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: I believe that each student has different needs and skills, and therefore needs to be treated and tutored in a way that is unique to his or her situation. I possess the ability to discern each student's needs and preferences, and thus adapt accordingly. I truly care about the success of each individual student. I tutor because I love to see students thrive and become engaged in their studies. It excites me--causes me to be elated--when I see the fruit of the time and energy spent, as well as the struggles and obstacles that are overcome.
I like to make learning fun. I do not try to entertain the students, but I have
consistently been told that my students enjoy the tutoring sessions with me. This assists them in not "dreading" the appointment with the tutor.
Overall, I love to tutor, the students enjoy my tutoring, and it gives me great satisfaction to see students succeed--especially when they previously doubted that they could.
