GENERAL EXPERIENCE:     I spent three years as a tutor when I was in high school. I tutored students at my former middle school in math, English, and history once a week for one and a half hours. It was always a rewarding experience. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2009. I am a member of Golden Key International Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa. My strength in college was research and writing, and I look forward to helping others learn to do these things better. My most recent job was as a tour guide at the Ard Godfrey House. This position was a lot like a teaching and tutoring position, because I really had to teach visitors about who Godfrey was, why he was important, and what his house and his possessions say about his period in American history. Tour guiding is a fun and interesting job, and I hope to do more of it one day. In addition to tour guiding, I have also worked as a communications coordinator for a small non-profit in Minneapolis. For this job, I communicated with volunteers, sent out a weekly newsletter and press releases, and coordinated an event for the group. It was an interesting job that utilized my writing skills.
APPROACH TO TUTORING:    I am a hands-on tutor. I don't like to simply give students the answers. I like to show them how to find the answers themselves. I was always fairly good at math and can usually explain difficult concepts well, in the way that my dad used to explain them to me when I didn't understand them. My specialty is research and writing. I have done lots of this and I have a methodical way of going about it which I'm eager to share with students. I have done a good deal of proofreading and editing, both in my scholastic work and in my jobs, so I feel quite prepared to edit and proofread students' papers.
