GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Learning and teaching are a way of life for me; I am a student of the cosmos and have a zest for sharing and digesting the incredible universe we all call home. My career goal is to be a professional astronomer and professor or teacher. While working at NASA scouring the sky for asteroids and comets as a student intern I now know what it takes to create and meet goals large and small. I have been a Professional Tennis Coach in California and Colorado since 2002, I have developed children and teens self-confidence and passion for a very difficult sport with patience, empathy, and the acute sense of knowing when to push, pull, and finally let go of a student going through a difficult mental and sometimes physical barrier. My job is to put myself out of a job so the student can flourish on his or her own. I have tutored in public elementary schools as a teaching assistant, my task was to help children one-on-one in Math, Science, Art and English, and also critical thinking and reasoning skills for test taking preparation and strategies.

APPROACH TO TUTORING: My tutoring style begins with a sensitivity to understanding where the student is in his or her development. I am a big picture personality; once I know the points of departure and arrival in a student's development arc the details come naturally. I have to come to the student's frame of knowledge in order to know the appropriate analogies and metaphors to use. I find that many students have a combination of learning styles, whether auditory, kinetic, or visual, and that I must tailor my approach with the right combination of styles. I've heard great comedians say that the best time to plant an idea in someone's head is right after they laugh. Learning must be an appropriate balance of fun, challenge, and accomplishment.
